Life as a Weaving

Open to the Holy Spirit
The more we weave openness to the Holy Spirit and silent worship of Jesus into our lives, the more we shall listen to and hear God. The result will be that we shall find another spiritual strand becoming an essential part of our make-up - the strand of holiness of living or Christ-likeness. This holiness will not be confined to our space of prayer - it will spill over into the home, the work-place, our relationships, the fellowship to which we belong; in short, everywhere. This will, in turn, remind us of another strand of spirituality - the social justice strand where we remind ourselves of the nature of the One on whom we model our lives: Jesus.
Cultivating Compassion
As Henri Nouwen reminded us, the phrase 'moved with compassion' sums up, in part, the personality of Jesus. The word 'compassion' was used to describe him twelve times by the gospel writers. The word literally means 'to hurt at gut level,' to hurt so deeply that he reached out to the poor and needy, pouring into them love, acceptance and healing. The more the social justice strand is woven into the fabric of our lives, the more we shall hear and respond to the cry of the poor.
