John Piper speaks about Saint Paul's words in 1 Corinthians chapter 12. He explains that speaking in tongues is a gift from God, and one that should be asked for by believers.
Piper states that in most cases he understands the gift of tongues to be one where words of spiritual value are uttered from people's lips. He states that sometimes these are for the benefit of the individual, and other times for the benefit of the church.
