What Does The Number Twelve Mean In The Bible? From series What Do The Numbers In The Bible Mean?.

Twelve: God’s chosen number
The number 12 is a significant, commonly used number in the bible. The sum of the digits in the number 12 equals three (1 + 2 = 3). Therefore the number 12 is a special use of the number three. The number three symbolises acts of God.
In the bible in there are the 12 tribes, the 12 judges, the 12 disciples, etc. The number 12 therefore represents the specific act of God choosing his following from among the masses. For example, Jesus was 12 years old when He revealed how special He was:
‘When Jesus was twelve years old He accompanied His parents to Jerusalem for the annual Passover Festival, which they attended each year ... Three days later they finally discovered him’ (Luke 2:41-42, 46).
