The Story of a Champion

'Those who honour me I will honour' (1 Samuel 2:30).
As the Olympics 2012 approach, Australian Tom Treseder reflects back upon his rowing career. Despite enormous success as a young sportsman Tom remembers feeling a constant emptiness until he became a Christian at 15. This required him to make some big decisions and sacrifices. He was 'convicted' to stop rowing on a Sunday, which would immediately rule out many races, including the Commonwealth and Olympic games ... Yet he sensed the words from 1 Samuel come to mind, that God would honour him.
God certainly did so. After a 13 year break, his wife encouraged him to get back on the water to compete in the 'Masters' (over 27 year olds). Tom faithfully rowed early at six AM every morning except Sunday. In 1984 he became World Champion - the first of 33 gold medals over the following years!
