Days after the court ruling against prayers being said before council meetings, passionate responses are being made all across the country. As Christians, our identity is tied up in what we believe; we cannot separate our faith from any area of our lives.  The ten commandments and teaching of the gospels have undoubtedly influenced British society. What would happen if Christian heritage were to dissolve completely?

Both Baroness Warsi, Britain’s first female Muslim cabinet minister, and Lord Carey have commented on the marginalisation of Christianity.

Baroness Warsi states ‘You cannot and should not extract (these) Christian foundations from the evolution of our nations any more than you can or should erase the spires from our landscapes.’

Religion is being 'sidelined, marginalised and downgraded in the public sphere' she says.

Lord Carey has also spoken out, saying that Christianity is facing ‘gradual marginalization.’ He said Christians do not leave their faith behind them when involved in the public sphere. After the decision forbidding prayers at council meetings, he wrote: ‘These legal rulings may also mean army chaplains could no longer serve, and that the Coronation Oath, in which the King or Queen pledges to maintain the laws of God and the lessons contained in the Gospels, would need to be abolished.’
