Hotel Offers Kindle Bibles


Forgot to pack your bible? No problem. That is, if you're heading for Hotel Indigo in Newcastle. The English hotel has recently replaced the traditional hard copies of Gideon bibles with electronic ones.
Founded in 1899, the US-based evangelical organisation Gideons International give out free copies of the bible in prisons, hospitals and hotel rooms. Almost 80 million bibles were given out last year.
This week, guests at the Hotel Indigo will find a Kindle e-reader loaded with the bible. They will also be able to download other religious texts or fiction for a cost.
After a trial period this month, the hotel chain hope to expand it to other branches around the world.
Hotel Manager Adam Munday said that inspiration came from the literary heritage around them in Newcastle. As well as it being a former publishing base, it is also home to the largest independent library outside London, the Literary and Philosophical Society.
Perhaps this move will mean more people sinking into their hotel duvets with a copy of God's word ...
