Churches Struggle to Fight Homelessness

What to do when encountering a homeless person on the street can sometimes be a hard question. Statistically, in the last year, rough-sleeping has risen in England by 23%. Despite many initiatives to combat it, churches are struggling to meet the demand for shelter.
Housing Justice director Alison Gelder says the rise has been caused by a number of factors including the introduction of a cap on benefits, the rising cost of essentials such as food, and cuts to advice agencies.
She states that the government should re-think it’s policies ‘which are impacting most directly on the poorest in society.’
