‘Church of England likely to disappear within Three Generations’
In recent weeks we have seen prayers forbidden in council meetings, public sector workers banned from displaying Christian symbols at work and Richard Dawkins stating Christianity should be eliminated from the public realm. In light of such events, Allison Pearson doubts the Church of England will survive much longer.
She explains her personal feelings about the strangeness of religion, adding that when it comes to speaking about it, everyone suddenly ‘squirms and studies their shoes.’
Pearson, however, is sympathetic to Christianity and demonstrates its role in bringing hope when she says that its rituals feel ‘full, not hollow,’ as so much of modern life can be.
