Big Businesses Look To Church For Ethics


In an effort to re-integrate morality into the heart of their businesses, major companies such as Tesco, Unilever and Centrica, have consulted the church.
The Archbishop of Westminster, the Most Rev Vincent Nichols, met around 200 executives in a conference on Tuesday. The need to be seen as having integrity has been highlighted recently by the banking scandal, which has caused widespread distrust in some banks.
Archbishop Nichols said there is a tendency to 'adopt a different set of values' when at work, in comparison with private lives. Yet when the motivation of a market economy is purely profit, the consequences rarely contribute towards the common good.
It is hoped that leadership training programmes will be initiated in businesses, in order that those moving up the ranks will inherit a good set of values.
