Between 1968 and 2011, there have been 6.4 million legal abortions in England and Wales, of this figure only 143 (0.006%) were to save the life of the mother, or to prevent serious permanent physical injury or mental health problems.
The research has been carried out by the British Government following a parliamentary question by Lord Alton of Liverpool.
It has been discovered that 99.5% of the 6.4 million abortions performed, terminated the child's life despite there being no apparent risk of health to the mother. Further figures revealed that for every 3 teenage girls, there have been 8 abortions between them. Whilst some women have had more than 8 legal abortions.
