George Kavoor

George Kovoor has been the Principal of Trinity College Bristol since July 2005. He has a big vision: ‘a new evangelisation of the UK, Europe and the nations'. He is a passionate and committed student of Jesus. George is focused on the Kingdom of God and its extension in every sphere of life. He encourages the deepening of Christian discipleship through earnest prayer, the rigorous study of the Bible and audacious mission. Under George's leadership the college has grown. He pioneered the development of Contex-based Training which is distinctive to Trinity. He brings to the college a missional spirituality and an exciting range of international relationships, experiences, knowledge and gifts. George has travelled to more than 88 nations as an ambassador of Christ. He has an exciting and vibrant international ministry as a Bible teacher, missiologist, evangelist, spiritual director and life coach. He is a popular speaker at pastors' conferences, clergy study days, ordination retreats, parish and deanery quiet days. He has spoken at Christian festivals such as Spring Harvest, Greenbelt, the Festival of Light in London, the Redeemed Congress in Lagos and the Maraman Convention in India. George's spiritual and ethnic roots are in the ancient Orthodox Church of St Thomas in India. He was ordained in the Church of North India, which is a united church and a member of the Anglican Communion. He is committed to the unity of the church and has a deep appreciation of the ‘world church'. He is involved with the Orthodox family of churches, the church in China and the Black Majority Pentecostal churches Before coming to Trinity he was the Principal of Crowther Hall: the Centre for Management and Mission Studies in Selly Oak, the University of Birmingham. He was also the Church Mission Society Director of Mission Education. As a pastor he has grown churches and has been very involved with grass-roots community development work. He has also served as a hospital and military chaplain. As the National Youth Director of the Church in India he developed many exciting models of youth and children's ministry. He is committed to every-member ministries and the nurture of inclusive leadership. George was a member of the General Synod of the Church of England for ten years. He is the international co-ordinator of the Evangelical Fellowship in the Anglican Communion (EFAC, founded by Revd Dr John Stott), a canon of Worcester Cathedral and a Chaplain to Her Majesty the Queen. In May 2010 he was appointed Canon Theologian of the Province of Niger Delta, Nigeria, and in November 2010 Canon Missiologist of the Diocese of Sabah, Malaysia, His home life is full of music, robust discussions and laughter. He reads widely and enjoys sport (he represented India in the World Sailing Championships). Good food is high on his agenda and he enjoys cooking for family and friends. Travel is in his blood and he is eager and excited to share his faith in Jesus.
