Read Amos 8:11 & Matthew 5:6
11 “The days are coming,” declares the Sovereign LORD,
“when I will send a famine through the land—
not a famine of food or a thirst for water,
but a famine of hearing the words of the LORD.
Amos 8:11
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
for they will be filled.
Matthew 5:6
Questions
1. We are made to ‘live by every word that proceeds from the mouth
of God’. Are we hungry for this, or has the hunger stopped, in which
case are we living off our own resources? What can we do to hunger
again?
2. Lack of rain is one cause of famine. When did we last know the
irrigation of the Holy Spirit in our own spirit? What do we need to do
to seek that once again?
3. Mildew and blight spoil the crops. Disappointment is the death
of faith. Are we ready to be real with God concerning disappointments
and then to risk trusting again?
4. Pests can strip the crops. Failure can lead to lack of spiritual
confidence. Have we faced any places where we have failed or the enemy,
the accuser whispers that we have failed? How can we support and
encourage one another through these times?
5. An enemy can lay siege to a city and cause famine. How can our enemy starve us out?
6. Be practical as to how we can hunger more for the word of God,
for reality with our Saviour and for the presence & power of the
spirit?
7. Take encouragement from the promise at the end of Matthew 5v6
–FOR THEY SHALL BE FILLED! Pray for one another for this to become
reality.
