What Does The Number Four Mean In The Bible? From series What Do The Numbers In The Bible Mean?.

Four: Creation’s Number
The number three is the last of the spiritual numbers. The number four builds on the number three by adding physical form, introducing the physical numbers. It symbolizes all that is about God's created works. Representations of the physical (carnal) world associated with the number four are all around. There are four elements (air, earth, fire, and water), four seasons, and four points to the compass. In Genesis, four rivers watered the Garden of Eden. The fourth commandment is the first commandment to refer to earthly matters. The number four appears even when the writers of the bible describe the physical form of God. In the first chapter of the book of Ezekiel, the prophet sees a vision of four creatures who provide form to presence of God. These same four creatures also appear in the book of Revelation.
